Mom went to go shopping with me to help buy me a few new pieces clothing. I thought it was cool to do that together, with just us two. Of course, the best part of shopping with mom was after the checkout at Laneco (if that is the correct store name). It was mom digging in her purse to magically pull out not a bunny, but something much more valuable: 4 quarters...which was just enough for 2 slices of greasy cheese pizza. Now that's shopping with a purpose!
The sweater-vest was such a favorite of mine, as I wore it in several combinations and it lasted until my first year at Ricks until it ended up with no shape. It stretched so far down, that I began to look like "Skirts" from Eatontown, NJ. Not sure how Rob and Jack came to have the same theme as mine at the Gold and Green Dance, but it became a very cool picture.
What I do remember about that G and G dance was the famous drive home in the Ford Pinto. Good ol' dad asked us how many times we danced, and I said 3, but Rob had danced 5 times. Not sure why Rob was in the back with me. But Dad was so upset that if he had had crackers in his mouth, we would have been wearing them...will leave that image for another time. However, the famous line of: "It is our priesthood duty to dance with all the girls", was uttered that night. Not sure where that came from, but somethings you just don't forget. I ended up with a few one liners from dad throughout my life. Every single one of them have I used with my children and with the youth I've had a priesthood responsibility for. Many of the statements have been very important in my development. thanks dad.
